Vaikaradhoo harbour development project also awarded to MTCC!

The Hdh. Vaikaradhoo harbour development project has been awarded to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).

The government awarded this project to MTCC during a meeting held with the residents of Vaikaradhoo, as part of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's ongoing tour of the inhabited islands of South Thiladhunmathi atoll.

State Minister Hassan Rasheed signed the agreement on behalf of the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure. Managing Director, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Retired) Ahmed Saudhee signed on behalf of MTCC.

Works to be carried out under this project:

• Dredging 2,700 cubic meters of the harbour area

• Construction of a 366-meter rock boulder breakwater

The project was awarded to MTCC for 34.40 million Rufiyaa, to be completed within 330 days.

Vaikaradhoo, with a population of 1,800, is an island famous for fishing and tourism. Upon completion of this project, the current harbour design will be altered and the channel widened, which will resolve the issue of tidal swells and the problem of fish dying after entering the lagoon.
