The R. Vaadhoo Council has decided to hold a fishing tournament on the island to celebrate this year's Fishermen's Day.
The council decided to hold a fishing tournament on the occasion of Fishermen's Day with the aim of interesting citizens in earning an income from fishing and to develop the fisheries sector. The council stated that this fishing tournament will take place on Saturday, December 20, from 7:00 am to 17:00 pm.
The council has now opened the opportunity to participate in this tournament. Parties wishing to participate in this tournament must complete and submit the application form to the council office before 10:00 am on Tuesday, December 09, 2025.
The Vaadhoo Council stated that they want to conduct this fishing tournament as a competitive event, and that in addition to Vaadhoo residents and people living in Vaadhoo, an outsider or outsiders can also be included in the teams. However, the council stated that the responsible person for the team must be a registered resident of Vaadhoo. The council also stated that a maximum of 5 people can participate in a team entering this tournament.
The council stated that cash prizes have been offered for the winning teams of this fishing tournament. As such, a cash prize of 8,000 Rufiyaa is offered for the 1st place team, 5,000 Rufiyaa for the 2nd place team, and 3,000 Rufiyaa for the 3rd place team. The council has also decided to give a cash prize of 500 Rufiyaa to the person who catches the largest and heaviest fish in the tournament.
The council has publicly opened the opportunity to sponsor the fishing tournament and offer prizes for various categories until 14:00 on Monday, December 15, 2025.
