The R. Vaadhoo Island Council has decided to host a fishing tournament to mark this year's Fishermen's Day.
The council decided to hold the fishing tournament on the occasion of Fishermen's Day with the aim of generating public interest in profiting from fishing and advancing the fisheries sector. The council stated that the tournament will take place from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm on Saturday, December 7.
The council has now opened the opportunity to participate in the tournament. Interested parties must complete and submit the application form to the council office before 10:00 am on Thursday, November 28, 2024.
The Vaadhoo Council stated that it wants to conduct the fishing tournament as a competitive event, and that residents of Vaadhoo, people living in Vaadhoo, as well as outsiders can be included in the teams. However, the council noted that the team manager must be a registered resident of Vaadhoo. The council also stated that a maximum of 5 people can participate in a team entering the tournament.
The council said that cash prizes have been offered for the winning teams in the tournament. Accordingly, a cash prize of 5,000 Rufiyaa is offered for the 1st place team, 3,000 Rufiyaa for the 2nd place team, and 1,500 Rufiyaa for the 3rd place team. The council has also decided to award a cash prize of 500 Rufiyaa to the person who catches the biggest fish in the tournament.
The council has opened the opportunity to sponsor the fishing tournament and offer prizes for various categories until 2:00 pm on Thursday, December 5.
