Two Sri Lankan fishing boats operating illegally in the Maldives' Exclusive Economic Zone have been intercepted.
The boats were detained and brought under the custody of the MNDF Coast Guard during a patrol of the Maldives' Exclusive Economic Zone on the night of the 5th of this month.
These Sri Lankan boats were brought under the custody of the MNDF Coast Guard while operating 137 nautical miles east of V. Fotteyo Muli.
In addition, another foreign boat that illegally entered Maldives waters was intercepted during surveillance conducted by the Coast Guard Special Boat Squadron using an MNDF Air Corps drone. The MNDF stated that this operation was carried out after it was noted that a foreign boat was operating illegally in Maldives waters.
