Two Sri Lankan fishing boats have been intercepted while operating illegally within the Exclusive Economic Zone of the Maldives.
The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) stated that the two fishing boats caught operating illegally in the Maldives' Exclusive Economic Zone belong to Sri Lanka.
MNDF reported that the boats, discovered during a surveillance operation conducted by the MNDF Air Corps, were taken under the custody of the MNDF Coast Guard yesterday around 14:02 while operating 109 nautical miles east of HA. Kelaa.
MNDF added that efforts are currently underway to bring the two boats into Kulhudhuffushi City harbour and hand them over to the police.
