The deadline to submit nominations for the awards given at this year's Fishermen's Day ceremony has been extended by an additional two weeks.
The Fisheries Ministry opened the opportunity to submit nominations for the awards on October 9. While the deadline set in that announcement expired at 14:00 yesterday, the Ministry extended the deadline by an additional two weeks yesterday. With the 14-day extension, the new deadline to accept applications for the awards is November 21, 2024.
The Ministry has opened applications for the most serviceable young skipper (under 35 years) who is currently actively engaged in fishing and does no other work for income, the most experienced skipper (over 35 years) who is currently actively engaged in fishing and does no other work for income, and the serviceable reef fisherman whose main income-generating work is reef fishing. The Ministry stated that there will be an opportunity to apply for these awards in a personal capacity or to be nominated by another party.
