During the Fisheries Ministry team's ongoing trip to Ari Atoll, the Maalhos trolling FAD was established today 4.5 miles west of the island.
The FAD number is I08V02. This is the second FAD established in AA. Atoll. The other trolling FAD is located 5 miles northwest of Thoddoo.
Trolling FADs, established at a distance of between 3 to 6 miles around islands, are specially designed for trolling and sport fishing. The trolling FAD is designed with a light visible from afar and a radar reflector to easily identify the location of the FAD.
Trolling FADs are established to further promote and sustainably develop fishing, and to provide ease for fishermen, young fishers, and those involved in recreational fishing.
