The team from the Transforming Fisheries Sector Management in South-West Indian Ocean Region and Maldives Project (TRANSFORM), conducted by the Fisheries Ministry with grant and loan assistance from the World Bank, has successfully concluded its trip to Thinadhoo City.
According to the Fisheries Ministry, the trip made by the TRANSFORM team to Thinadhoo City from the 21st to the 31st of this month was to collect information required for scientific research on fish caught by reef fishers. The Fisheries Ministry stated that the team was active in collecting important information needed for the research by checking the weight and size of the fish caught by the fishermen.
Among other activities carried out by the team, the Fisheries Ministry stated that in addition to determining the extent of marine resource utilization in the Maldives, they also conducted the work of photographing reef fish required for the Fishes of the Maldives catalogue.
The TRANSFORM project, implemented to strengthen fisheries management in the South-West Indian Ocean region, is a project aimed at enhancing regional cooperation through data collection, research, and information sharing to support evidence-based decision-making, and increasing the capacity of countries in managing and protecting the fisheries industry. The objectives of this project include promoting sustainable and inclusive practices to expand and diversify the fisheries industry, eliminating barriers to business competitiveness, and increasing women's participation in fisheries management.
