The Ministry of Fisheries has opened the opportunity to participate in a training program aimed at interesting Maldivian youth in fishing.
The Ministry of Fisheries stated that this training program, to be conducted under the World Bank-assisted Transforming Fisheries Sector in South-West Indian Ocean Region and Maldives Project, is designed to create interest in fishing among youth and provide them with opportunities to acquire relevant training and skills to enter the fishing and fisheries-related sectors.
The Ministry of Fisheries said that in this three-month program, in addition to providing technical information on fishing, participants will be given the opportunity to practically engage in fishing. In this regard, the Ministry stated that participants will have the opportunity to learn practical fishing training and skills from the most experienced captains in the Maldives on one of the most notable pole-and-line fishing vessels operating in the country.
The Ministry of Fisheries yesterday opened the opportunity for individuals under 24 years of age who are interested in working in the fishing industry and are not currently included in the fishermen's registry to participate in this program, which is planned to run from September to the end of November this year. The Ministry stated that the opportunity to participate in the first round of the training program will be given to 5 youths who want to newly enter fishing, and a daily allowance will be provided to participants during the training program period.
The Ministry has requested those who wish to participate in this training program to complete the application form and email it along with a copy of their ID card before 14:00 on August 27. The application form can be downloaded from the Gazette.
