Three students from the College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences, operated under the Maldives National University (MNU), have graduated.
The three graduating students are Ahmed Hanan, Aminath Suha Hashim, and Hamdha Hussain Rasheed, who completed the Bachelor of Marine Science course conducted by the college. The names of the students in the first batch to attain the degree were announced and their certificates were handed over during the third session of the MNU Graduation 2025 held yesterday.
The names of the three students who attained the certificates were announced by the Dean of the College, Dr. Ahmed Riyaz Jauharee. The certificates were handed over by MNU Council Member Dr. Ibrahim Mohamed.
The Ministry of Fisheries has extended a very warm welcome to the first batch of students to attain the Bachelor of Marine Science degree from the College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences. In a post on X, the Ministry stated that the main objective of the Fisheries College, established under President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's policy to modernize fisheries, is to produce academic, technical, and skilled youth for the Maldives' fisheries sector.
The Dean of the College, Dr. Ahmed Riyaz Jauharee, previously stated that the Fisheries College is not merely an institution that teaches fisheries education, but will become an important foundation for understanding ecosystems and passing that knowledge on to future generations. He also stated that the education provided by the college will be knowledge that paves the way to fully reap the benefits of fisheries and marine resources, and that the students of the college will become individuals who learn through research and work at the forefront of the marine science sector in the Maldives.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu announced the decision to establish a Fisheries College in the Maldives for the first time at the ceremony held to mark the 43rd Fishermen's Day of the Maldives in 2023. The Fisheries College was established under a Memorandum of Understanding signed between MNU and the Ministry of Fisheries on December 27, 2023.
