Making fishermen a state-recognized group is a policy of this government. Furthermore, compiling a national fishermen's registry is a presidential pledge of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. The Ministry of Fisheries is currently undertaking the work of compiling a comprehensive national fishermen's registry.
This registry has been finalized as an additional module to the Ministry of Fisheries' "Keyolhu" system. The Keyolhu system is a mechanism that collects, stores, and manages fisheries-related information. Registering fishermen in this system is divided into 3 stages.
Stages of registration:
When the code sent to the captain from the application is shared with the crew members, they can use the code to register in the registry. After the crew members download the Keyolhu application to their phones and log in using eFaas, a prompt to enter the code will appear. When the code provided by the captain is entered, the information of the crew members applying to register is retrieved from the DNR.
Only the crew members approved by the captain, from among those who apply to become crew members of the vessel using the captain's code, will be registered. To ensure the validity of the registry, the information of the vessel's crew members will be visible to all crew members.
While the government's policy is to make fishermen a group registered with a state institution, the Ministry of Fisheries has stated that upon completion of the registry work, the official information of all fishing vessels operating in the Maldives, along with their captains and crew members, will be stored and maintained in the Ministry's database.
