Three crew members of the GA. Maamendhoo fishing vessel 'Sea Pro' sustained serious injuries in an accident while preparing to catch bait today.
The vessel's captain, Firaag, stated that the incident occurred today while attempting to anchor the vessel near the reef of GA. Boadhoo to catch bait before heading out to fish. The incident happened around 05:40 pm today.
"This happened while we were getting ready to anchor the boat to light up for bait. Actually, while dropping the anchor and paying out the rope, a loop caught and snapped the rope, causing three crew members to fall towards the bow and sustain serious injuries," the captain said.
The injured crew members (fishermen) in this incident are Sajid, Waheed, and Faiz. Among them, Sajid and Waheed were treated at the GA. Vilingili Hospital and have been discharged. Faiz suffered the most severe injuries in this incident. His teeth were broken, and his head was cut open. The captain informed that he also sustained severe injuries to his shoulder joint. After receiving treatment at Vilingili Hospital, preparations are currently underway to bring Faiz to Male' for further treatment, the captain said.
Following the incident, the vessel has resumed its trip and is currently engaged in catching bait using lights, the captain informed.
