The Maldives National University (MNU) has held the third seminar of its 'Ilmee Foavahi' series for this year today.
Today's seminar was focused on empowering women in the maritime industry. The panelists for this seminar included the Head of Centre for Maritime Studies Captain Mohamed Zaid, Maritime Instructor Captain Ahmed Jabir, and the General Manager of Maldives Ports Limited Aishath Neesha Khaleel. During the seminar, a presentation was given to the participants regarding notable aspects of the maritime industry.
The Head of Centre for Maritime Studies Captain Mohamed Zaid stated that the main purpose of holding this seminar is to expand the role of women in the maritime industry. Zaid said that the shipping industry is not a widely discussed field among Maldivians, and therefore, showing that there are opportunities for women in this field and that it is a safe environment for women to work in is also a purpose of conducting such an event. Zaid also noted that the International Maritime Organization (IMO) is working towards this goal as well.
Today's 'Ilmee Foavahi' seminar was organized by MNU's Centre for Maritime Studies. The National University started the series of public seminars under the name 'Ilmee Foavahi' in 2013.
