Team Sausan has won the "MWSC fishing competition" held as part of the activities to mark this year's Fishermen's Day.
Held in Dhuvaafaru from 03:15 pm yesterday afternoon to 09:15 pm last night with over 90 participants, a total of 10 teams participated in this race, including five teams from Dhuvaafaru, 4 teams from Ugoofaaru, and 1 team from Rasmaadhoo.
Although 10 teams competed in this tournament, 8 teams completed the race. The winning teams were selected based on the weight of the fish caught by the teams, and Team Sausan won first place or the championship by weighing the most fish. The team achieved first place with 2147.5 points. The team was awarded a cash prize of 25,000 Rufiyaa. Team Quicker came in 2nd place with 1835.5 points, winning a cash prize of 15,000 Rufiyaa. Team Iris came in 3rd place with 1272.5 points in the fishing race, winning a cash prize of 10,000 Rufiyaa. The heaviest fish of the race was caught by Team Rangali.
In addition, the Maldives Fisheries and Ocean Resources Marketing and Promotion Corporation Limited also awarded cash prizes to the winning teams. Accordingly, 10,000 Rufiyaa was given to the first team, 5,000 Rufiyaa to the second team, and 3,000 Rufiyaa to the third team as prizes.
