The white alert previously issued for the central atolls has been extended, as bad weather is expected to continue tonight.
The weather alert was initially issued today from 03:30 pm to 08:30 pm tonight, forecasting winds between 19 to 24 mph and gusts up to 45 mph, along with rough seas for the central atolls.
Upon the expiration of the alert issued in the evening, the National Meteorological Centre extended the alert until 01:30 am. The extended alert also states that winds are expected between 19 to 24 mph, with gusts up to 45 mph and rough seas in the central atolls.
Forecasting the weather for the Maldives, the National Meteorological Centre stated that rain is expected across various regions, with heavy showers and thunderstorms likely in some islands. Winds are forecast from the southwest and west at speeds between 15 to 25 mph. Additionally, gusts of up to 45 mph are possible, according to the National Meteorological Centre.
The MET Office stated that seas will generally be rough across all regions. It also mentioned that waves are expected to reach heights of 4-7 feet.
Due to the bad weather, the National Meteorological Centre has urged everyone to be cautious of the weather conditions.
