President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that STO fuel skids will be opened in all atolls of the Maldives within the next three months.
Delivering this year's Presidential Address, the President stated that the biggest challenge facing the fishing industry is the lack of cold storage to store raw fish. The President assured that the projects underway to find a solution to this issue will be completed and handed over within the next 15 months.
The President said that another major difficulty faced by fishermen is the challenge of obtaining fuel at affordable prices from all regions of the Maldives. He noted that as part of the government's efforts to resolve this, the first STO fuel skid was opened and services commenced in R. Dhuvaafaru on 13 December 2025 to arrange for fuel availability at STO rates.
The President stated that through this initiative, STO fuel skids will be opened in all atolls of the Maldives within the next three months.
Designating fuel as an essential service and establishing a convenient arrangement for the general public to obtain petrol and diesel at STO rates in at least one island in every atoll of the Maldives is a presidential pledge of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
