The STO cargo boat, MMS Galena, has departed for Sri Lanka carrying canned fish donated by the Maldivian government to neighboring Sri Lanka.
The boat departed last night carrying 25,000 cases of canned fish donated by the Maldivian government to help the country overcome the damages and difficulties faced by its citizens due to heavy rains across various parts of Sri Lanka caused by Cyclone "Ditwa". It is reported that the boat, loaded with 14 containers, is traveling to the port of Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka.
In addition to the canned fish, the USD 50,000 designated by the Maldivian government as aid to Sri Lanka was also handed over to the Sri Lankan government yesterday. The financial aid donated by the Maldives was handed over to the Sri Lankan government by the Maldivian Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Masood Imad. The aid was received on behalf of the Sri Lankan government by the country's Foreign Minister, Vijitha Herath.
