State Minister of Fisheries Meets with Council Presidents of Dh. Bandidhoo and Dh. Meedhoo

State Minister of Fisheries Mohamed Muttalib has met with the council presidents of Dh. Bandidhoo and Dh. Meedhoo.

During the meeting held at the Fisheries Ministry yesterday, the council presidents requested to expedite the work on the ice plants planned for the two islands, and to deploy a sports fishing FAD (vadu kandhufathi) for the youth of the islands.

Sharing further details of the meeting with "Keyolha", Muttalib stated that regarding the requests made by the council presidents, the Dh. Meedhoo ice plant has now been awarded to a contractor, work has commenced, and payments have been made to the supplier. Furthermore, discussions have been held with the supplier regarding the Bandidhoo ice plant, and he informed them that it will be awarded to a contractor within this year.

In addition, the councils requested the deployment of sports fishing or reef fishing FADs in both islands. However, as the two islands are located very close to each other, the work will proceed under a specific policy, and the council presidents were informed that the deployment of the FAD is expected to proceed next year, State Minister Muttalib said.

In addition to mainly discussing the ice plants and FADs during yesterday's meeting, the council presidents also shared many concerns regarding the fisheries sector.
