A foreign fishing boat has been caught operating in Maldivian waters in violation of the Maldives Fisheries Act.
The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) stated that the Coast Guard intercepted a boat belonging to Sri Lanka. MNDF added that there were 6 people on board when the vessel was captured, and the boat has now been handed over to the Maldives Police Service (MPS).
Boats belonging to neighboring countries are occasionally caught entering Maldivian waters illegally to fish. These boats are fined, and sometimes such vessels are confiscated by the state.
