The ministry's team also deployed a trolling FAD near K. Gaafaru last Wednesday. The Gaafaru trolling FAD was deployed 4.5 miles east of the island. The FAD number is G10V01.
Trolling FADs established at a distance of between 3 and 6 miles around islands are specially deployed for trolling and sports fishing. However, the general fisheries regulations were recently amended to allow pole-and-line fishing near them. Although pole-and-line fishing and large yellowfin tuna fishing using handlines within a one-mile radius of trolling FADs were previously prohibited, the amendment to the regulation now allows pole-and-line fishing near trolling FADs.
