The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has launched a special operation to inspect sea vessels.
MNDF stated that this operation, which began yesterday, is being conducted due to an increase in various dangerous incidents resulting from the operation of sea vessels without licenses and without fulfilling the safety requirements specified in maritime safety regulations. In this regard, MNDF said the operation will check whether measures have been taken for the safety and security of the traveling vessels and their passengers, and whether the requirements stated in the vessels' safety certificates have been met. This includes checking the marine VHF, verifying if the vessel's captain holds a valid sea vessel driving license, and inspecting many other aspects related to the safety and security of travelers.
During this operation, MNDF Area Commands are active, and it has been decided to check vessels departing from and entering island harbors. Furthermore, MNDF stated that measures will be taken to ensure vessels are operating in accordance with all maritime laws and regulations established to protect the lives and property of citizens, and to enforce corrections.
