Special FAD Deployed for Kudahuvadhoo

A special FAD has been deployed for Dh. Kudahuvadhoo.

During the ongoing trip by the Fisheries Ministry's technical team to the central atolls, the Dh. Kudahuvadhoo FAD was deployed outside Maafushi in the atoll this morning. According to the Ministry, the FAD was deployed 6 miles off the southwest of Maafushi. The FAD number is K08V03.

With the Dh. Kudahuvadhoo FAD, the number of FADs in Dh. Atoll has reached 3. This year, the Fisheries Ministry has deployed FADs in Meedhoo and Maadheli in the atoll. The Meedhoo FAD was deployed 5.5 miles east of the island in January this year. And the Maadheli FAD was deployed 6 miles west of Maadheli in May this year.

FADs established at a distance of between 3 to 6 miles around the islands are special FADs for trolling and sport fishing. The FAD is designed with a light visible from afar and a radar reflector to easily identify the location of the FAD.

The Fisheries Ministry said that youths of the islands and directly from the councils are requesting to deploy FADs in their islands. And, under a specific policy, the work of deploying new FADs in the islands is proceeding by looking at the most beneficial way, the Ministry has previously said. Under the Ministry's efforts to expand the FAD network, establishing additional FADs in many areas of the Maldives will bring immense satisfaction and benefits to fishermen who fish for reef fish to earn an income, and to those who participate in recreational fishing activities.
