The National Meteorological Service has forecast strong winds and very rough seas across all regions of the Maldives for the next five days.
In a statement released by the authority, it was noted that due to the intensification of the southwest monsoon in the Maldives region, winds are generally expected to blow at speeds of 15 to 25 miles per hour in the northern and central areas over the next five days. In the southern regions, winds are expected to blow at 13 to 23 miles per hour, with gusts increasing wind speeds and causing rough seas.
"Winds may gust up to approximately 45 to 55 miles per hour during squalls. Therefore, seas across all atolls of the Maldives are expected to be very rough," the MET Office stated.
The MET Office also stated that heavy rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds are expected over the next five days. It further noted that tidal swells are likely during high tide.
Due to the forecast of strong winds, rough seas, and heavy rain, the MET Office has urged everyone to be cautious of the weather. The authority also requested seafarers to obtain the latest weather information before starting their journeys.
