Shark attacks man fishing near Kulhudhuffushi reef

A man has been severely injured after being bitten by a shark while fishing near the HDh. Kulhudhuffushi reef this morning.

A source who provided information to "Keyolha" news said the incident occurred around 7:00 am this morning, injuring a 30-year-old Maldivian man. The shark attacked him while he was in the water fishing with three other people. The source said the shark attacked shortly after he entered the water, and he did not have any fish in his hand at the time.

Due to the shark attack, his right shoulder joint was dislocated, and he sustained major injuries to his shoulder, arm, and side. After the attack, the three people who went fishing with him rescued him and took him to Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital for treatment. The source from Kulhudhuffushi also stated that his condition is stable and efforts are currently underway to send him to Male' for further treatment. He added that a large number of sharks are seen near the Kulhudhuffushi reef, but it is unknown what type of shark attacked him.

While the number of sharks in Maldivian waters has increased, causing concern among the public and those active in the fishing industry, in June last year, a military officer who went into the sea near L. Maavah also died due to injuries sustained from a shark attack.
