Mohamed Shakeel, who served in state institutions for over 40 years conducting research on fisheries and oceans, has passed away.
Shakeel was 64 years old at the time of his passing and held the position of Deputy Director General of Mariculture at the Maldives Marine Research Institute (MMRI).
Following Shakeel's passing, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has expressed his condolences. In a message shared on social media, the President stated that Shakeel's passing is an irreparable loss to the nation in the field of fisheries and marine research. He also noted that the late Mohamed Shakeel was a hardworking and courageous individual in his work.
"I pray for patience for the family of the late Mohamed Shakeel and extend my condolences. May Almighty Allah bless the soul of the late Shakeel with the eternal blessings and mercy of Paradise. Ameen," read President Dr. Muizzu's message.
The late Shakeel, who served the state for 41 years, was an individual who did a lot of work in breeding marine life in the Maldives. As such, the Marine Research Section of the Fisheries Ministry was first started under Shakeel's leadership. He also worked passionately to bring Maldivians into the field of marine science and trained many employees in this field.
