The L. Maavah Island Council has decided to provide electricity services by installing a separate meter for every fishing vessel operating from the island's harbour.
According to the "Guidelines on Providing Electricity Services from Haddhunmathi Maavah Harbour" passed and published by the island council, arrangements have been made under a specific policy to provide electricity to parties carrying out various works in the harbour area with the council's permission. Accordingly, the policy mandates that a separate meter be installed for every fishing vessel operating in Maavah.
Fishing vessels wishing to obtain services from the meters specifically installed for them must complete the designated form and submit it to the council. After the council checks the form, a separate meter will be registered for eligible vessels under an agreement made with the council.
Services from the registered meters will be provided for a fee. The council stated that the meters will be charged at the billing rate of Fenaka. Furthermore, billing will be based on a bill prepared by the council after taking the reading on the 25th of every Gregorian month, and the bill must be paid before the 10th of every month, according to the council.
The council stated that if the bill is not paid within the stipulated period, the service will be suspended from that point onwards. The council added that the service will only be resumed once all pending bills are paid.
