The opportunity to submit proposals for the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) required for the project to establish an ice plant and cold storage in L. Hithadhoo has been reopened.
MIFCO has cancelled its previous announcement and reopened the opportunity for proposals, as it did not receive adequate response to find a party to prepare the EIA for the project to establish a 10-tonne seawater tube ice plant along with a 20-tonne cold storage in Hithadhoo.
MIFCO stated that the deadline for interested and eligible parties to submit estimates or proposals for this work is 13:00 on 25 March 2026. The announcement noted that bids must be submitted only to the email address contract@mifco.mv, and MIFCO reserves the right to reject bids sent or CC'd to any other email address.
The bid opening meeting will be held at 14:00 on 25 March 2026. The meeting will be conducted via Microsoft Teams in the presence of all registered bid participants. To register to participate in the bid opening meeting, MIFCO has requested to email bid@mifco.mv before 13:00 on 25 March 2026.
MIFCO stated that participation in this meeting is not mandatory and is optional. Furthermore, MIFCO noted that any party submitting a proposal before the stipulated deadline will be considered a registered bidder. MIFCO has requested to email bid@mifco.mv if any clarification regarding this matter is required.
Establishing an ice plant in L. Hithadhoo is a presidential pledge of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. The agreement to award this work was signed between the government and MIFCO during President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's visit to Hithadhoo as part of his tour of L. Atoll in October last year.
Once the work on the ice plant established in Hithadhoo is completed and brought into operation, it will provide great convenience to the fishermen of Hithadhoo, L. Atoll, and the region. It will particularly benefit those engaged in reef fishing in the area.
