The National Meteorological Service has forecast that seas will remain rough today.
Forecasting the weather for the next 24 hours, the agency stated that rain is expected across various regions, with heavy showers and thunderstorms likely in some islands. It also predicted strong winds, which will intensify during squalls.
"Winds will blow from the southwest and west at speeds between 15 to 23 miles per hour, and may gust up to 45 to 55 miles per hour during squalls," the MET Office forecast.
Furthermore, the MET Office stated that seas will be rough across all areas, with wave heights expected to be between 5 to 8 feet. The agency also noted that swell waves may affect some islands during high tide.
Due to the bad weather, a white alert is currently in effect from N Atoll to Th Atoll. The alert, issued for these atolls until 06:00 PM, states that winds are expected to blow at speeds between 19 to 24 miles per hour, gusting up to 40 miles per hour during squalls, resulting in rough seas.
The MET Office has urged everyone to be cautious of the weather.
