Rough seas predicted for northern atolls today

The Maldives Meteorological Service has predicted rough seas for the northern atolls today.

The agency has also issued a white alert for the region. The alert, effective until 12:30 pm for the northern atolls, states that winds will blow at speeds between 19 and 24 miles per hour, resulting in rough seas.

The Maldives Meteorological Service stated yesterday that as the southwest monsoon is expected to intensify over the Maldives region, strong winds, rough seas, and tidal swells are predicted for some northern and central atolls over the next five days. Additionally, the agency noted that rain and thunderstorms are likely in some northern and central islands during this period.

Due to the forecast of strong winds and rough seas, the Maldives Meteorological Service has urged seafarers to obtain the latest weather information before embarking on journeys.

The southwest monsoon has now begun across the entire Maldives. While the southwest monsoon commenced in the southern atolls on the 7th of this month, it began in the central atolls on the 12th. Furthermore, the southwest monsoon started in the northern atolls on the 21st of this month.
