The National Meteorological Centre has forecast strong winds and rough seas for the northern and central atolls of the Maldives today.
Since the 17th of this month, the Southwest Monsoon has intensified across various parts of the Maldives, bringing rain, with the worst weather expected in the northern and central atolls. Consequently, the National Meteorological Centre has been issuing weather alerts. Over the past 4 days, a nationwide weather alert was issued only once, on the 17th. All other alerts have been issued for the northern and central atolls.
The White Alert issued from 03:30 last night to 09:30 this morning for the area from HA. to V. Atoll has now been extended. The alert has been extended until 02:30 this afternoon. The alert states that winds are expected to blow between 19 and 24 miles per hour in these atolls, with gusts up to 40 miles per hour during showers. Seas are also expected to be rough, with wave heights estimated at 4-7 feet. The National Meteorological Centre also forecasts that some islands may experience tidal swells during high tide.
Due to the bad weather, the National Meteorological Centre has urged everyone, especially seafarers, to be cautious of the weather.
