The opportunity to participate in the fishing tournament, held as part of the Eid al-Adha celebrations in L. Kalaidhoo, was opened today.
Organized by the Kalaidhoo Council, the "Kalaidhoo Eid Ufaa Mas Race 1446" aims to foster friendship and unity within the community in celebration of Eid al-Adha. The tournament is scheduled for June 9. Interested participants can submit their completed registration forms to the council office starting today until 14:00 on the 2nd of next month. The Kalaidhoo Council stated that incomplete forms or those submitted after the deadline will not be accepted.
Registration forms and tournament guidelines are available at the council office counter. They can also be downloaded from the attachment included in the announcement published in the Government Gazette.
According to the council, participation is strictly limited to those who submit a team list. A team must consist of a minimum of five and a maximum of 10 members, including the captain. Individuals under the age of 18 are not permitted to join, and teams cannot be registered under the name of any institution.
The council has decided to provide an allowance of MVR 500 to each participating team to cover fuel expenses, alongside cash prizes for the top teams. The winning teams will be selected by a five-member committee established by the council, with rankings determined by the total weight of the catch.
Prizes allocated for the winning teams:
- First place team: MVR 3,000
- Second place team: MVR 2,000
- Third place team: MVR 1,500
Additionally, the council will award a prize of MVR 250 to the individual who catches the heaviest fish, as well as to the individual who catches the longest fish.
The Kalaidhoo Council noted that once all the catch is weighed, the respective teams are responsible for cleaning and preparing their fish. Furthermore, all teams are required to participate in the fish barbecue event held following the conclusion of the tournament.
