Public Fishing Tournament to be Held in GA. Vilingili to Mark Fishermen's Day

The GA. Vilingili Island Council has decided to hold a fishing tournament to celebrate this year's Fishermen's Day.

The Vilingili Council stated that for this year's Fishermen's Day, they have decided to hold a fishing tournament open to the residents of the island under the name "Citizens' Fishing Tournament 2024", and the tournament is scheduled to be held on 10 December 2024. The council also stated that the date of the tournament may change if the weather does not permit.

The fishing tournament is scheduled to be open to both male and female residents of GA. Vilingili over the age of 18, and the council has now opened the opportunity to participate in the tournament. The council requested those who wish to participate in the fishing tournament to complete the "Fishing Tournament Participation Form" and submit it to the council office before 14:00 on December 5. The council also stated that forms will be accepted via email.

Participation in the fishing tournament is as a team. The council stated that a team can consist of a minimum of 3 people and a maximum of 7 people. The council has also decided to give cash prizes to the winning teams in the tournament.

• 1st place team: 10,000.00 Rufiyaa

• 2nd place team: 5,000.00 Rufiyaa

3rd place team: 3,000.00 Rufiyaa

Team that catches the most fish: 500.00 Rufiyaa

Person who catches the biggest fish: 500.00 Rufiyaa

The GA. Council stated that the purpose of holding a fishing tournament to mark Fishermen's Day is to revive the fishing industry, familiarize youth with the fishing industry, create a generation that will fish appropriately to obtain sustainable benefits from the fishing industry, appreciate fishermen at the island level, foster friendship among the citizens, and revive the social spirit of the community.
