The opportunity to submit proposals for the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) required to establish an ice plant and cold storage in L. Maavah has been reopened.
The Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) initially opened the opportunity on the 10th of this month for interested parties to prepare the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report for the project to establish a 40-tonne seawater tube ice plant along with a 60-tonne cold storage in Maavah. However, as an adequate number of participants did not apply during that period, MIFCO has now reopened the work for bidding.
According to the announcement published by MIFCO reopening the bid, the deadline for submitting proposals is 12:00 on 25 March 2026. Bids must be submitted only to the email address contract@mifco.mv, and the announcement states that MIFCO reserves the right to reject bids sent to any other email address or copied (CC'd) to others.
The bid opening meeting will be held at 13:00 on 25 March 2026. The meeting will be conducted via Microsoft Teams in the presence of all registered bidders. To register to participate in the bid opening meeting, MIFCO has requested to email bid@mifco.mv before 12:00 on 25 March 2026.
MIFCO stated that participation in this meeting is not mandatory and is optional. Furthermore, MIFCO stated that any party submitting a proposal before the set deadline will be considered a registered bidder. If any clarification is required regarding this matter, MIFCO has requested to email bid@mifco.mv.
The work to establish the ice plant in L. Maavah was entrusted to MIFCO during President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's visit to Maavah as part of his tour of Laamu Atoll in October last year. Once the work on the ice plant established in Maavah is completed and brought into operation, it will bring great convenience to the fishermen of Maavah and the surrounding area of Laamu Atoll. In particular, those engaged in reef fishing in this area will also benefit from this.
