MIFCO CEO Brigadier General (Retired) Farhath Shaheer has stated that the production of canned tuna to be distributed as Ramadan gifts will be completed by the 15th of this month.
Speaking on PSM's 'Raajje Miadhu' programme, the MIFCO CEO said that unlike last year, the order for the cases of canned tuna to be gifted to households by the government as Ramadan gifts this year was received well in advance. Farhath stated that due to receiving the order early, production is proceeding smoothly without altering MIFCO's production schedule, and the work for the order is now nearing completion.
Farhath further noted that 118,000 cases of canned tuna are being produced this year, and some of these cases have already been stored in Addu City and Kulhudhuffushi City in collaboration with the Ministry of Cities, Local Government and Public Works and STO. He added that based on the current pace of production, the entire production will be completed by the 15th of this month.
He also mentioned that, reflecting on last year's experience, the distribution of Ramadan gifts is being organised well in advance this year, and thorough preparations are underway. The Minister had previously stated that 75% of the canned tuna to be distributed as Ramadan gifts has already been prepared.
During last year's Ramadan, the government gifted 111,231 cases of canned tuna to households as Ramadan gifts. Just like last year, the government has decided to provide a case of canned tuna to every household as a Ramadan gift this year, and relevant authorities are preparing for the distribution operation. In this regard, the Minister of Cities, Local Government and Public Works, Adam Shareef Umar, previously stated that arrangements have begun to start the distribution of canned tuna early.
