President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has sent condolences to the family of MNDF Warrant Officer 2 Ali Hamid, who passed away in the incident where a Sivec landing craft capsized in the Kaashidhoo Sea while traveling to Lh. Atoll.
Warrant Officer 2 Ali Hamid was one of the individuals who went missing in the incident. In the search efforts conducted by MNDF via sea and air to find the two missing persons, Warrant Officer 2 Ali Hamid was found by divers from the MNDF Northern Area Command, Coast Guard First Squadron. MNDF stated, citing the Lh. Naifaru Hospital, that Warrant Officer 2 Ali Hamid had already passed away when he was taken to the hospital. The other person missing in this incident is a foreigner. MNDF stated that efforts are underway to find him.
Following the passing of Warrant Officer 2 Ali Hamid in this incident, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has expressed condolences to the family of the deceased. In a post shared on social media, the President noted that Warrant Officer 2 Ali Hamid had served the Maldivian military honorably for 27 years. The President's message also highlighted that he departed from this world while on military duty for national service, and expressed condolences to the family of the deceased, sharing in the grief of Ali Hamid's passing.
"During this sorrowful time, I join the family and the institution in this deep grief, and pray for the soul of the deceased to be blessed with mercy and for the family to be granted patience," the President's message read.
The Sivec "LC 308" landing craft capsized around 10:30 am today while traveling from Male' to Lh. Atoll. At the time of the incident, there were two military personnel, one Maldivian, and three foreigners on board. MNDF stated that 4 of the people traveling on it have been taken to the Lh. Atoll Hospital and are receiving treatment.
