President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has once again started a trip to four northern atolls without paying the pending money owed to fishermen.
During this trip to the four northern atolls, the President has now arrived in HA. Hoarafushi.
Fishermen stated that while the President is travelling with a large delegation under the guise of meeting citizens closely, the fishermen are in a very dire state. They noted that when the recently disbursed 70 million Rufiyaa was divided among the vessels and crew, the amount per head was too small, and the little money received was exhausted on paying off debts, leaving nothing for other living expenses.
One fisherman condemned the situation, stating that while the state claims there is no money for fishermen and promises to pay them once funds are found, they have started another expensive campaign trip to gather votes for the election.
"We were deceived. Surely, how much will that trip cost? They went with so many people because there is state money, right? The government is lying upon lying. Stop the campaign trips. They are spending our tax money on it. It is not PNC's money. It is not PPM's money," a fisherman said.
Another fisherman said that during the President's six-day trip to the north, nothing beneficial will be done for the fishermen. He added that they do not even expect him to meet with them.
"If they cared even a little about fishermen, they wouldn't go on a campaign trip while we are in such a state. We got no benefit from the trips made to the south either. We actually do not support this government and this President anymore. We will show that in the parliamentary elections," a fisherman said.
During the President's trip to the north, important discussions are scheduled to be held with citizens and councils. He will return to Male' on Thursday after concluding the trip.
