The President decided not to act on the Cabinet's decision after considering the concerns raised and submitted to him by the 'Bodu Kanneli Masveringe Union' (Yellowfin Tuna Fishermen's Union).
Following the President's decision today not to open longline fishing in the Maldives, the President's Office stated that the President will meet with the 'Bodu Kanneli Masveringe Union' and all other relevant key stakeholders for further discussions as soon as possible.
The President's Office also stated that the government will always work to listen to the opinions and advice of the people, formulate government policies in a way that provides good solutions to the various concerns of the citizens, and bring positive changes to the country.
