President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has called on fishermen to end their protests and come to discussions.
Speaking at a rally held in GDh. Thinadhoo last night, President Muizzu stated that if the government had the funds, they would not withhold it from the fishermen, and that protesting does not bring much progress to the fishermen or the country. The President said he is ready to discuss the matter with the fishermen.
"I request further discussions. I am also ready, if you wish to meet with me, whether tonight or tomorrow, I am ready to discuss," the President said.
The President said that things will be achieved through the beautiful principle of discussion, and that protesting in expensive places built with public money, and entering the powerhouses in those places to do things, is not something the fishermen would want either. He added that halting operations at those places would harm the public, and that there must be order in a country.
"Everyone must choose the proper principle. By proceeding in that manner, we will achieve what we want. All citizens should do things that way. You will receive cooperation from me," the President said.
Fishermen have been protesting in Kooddoo since Sunday morning because MIFCO has not paid the money owed to them. Additionally, since Monday, Addu fishermen have been protesting at the MIFCO Addu Fisheries Complex.
