President Assures Urgent Action to Address Fishermen's Concerns

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that he will take the concerns of fishermen very seriously and work to implement urgent measures to resolve them.

The President made these remarks during a consultative meeting held this morning at the President's Office with fishermen representing the "Fishermen's Lobby".

During today's meeting, the participating fishermen expressed their concerns and shared with the President the improvements needed in the fishing industry. Specifically, they highlighted issues such as the state-owned fishing company, Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO), delaying payments after purchasing fish on credit, low fish prices, difficulties in obtaining payments and fuel, and challenges in weighing fish. Furthermore, they requested the government to expedite ongoing efforts to develop the fishing industry in line with the President's pledges.

At today's meeting, the fishermen also shared ideas on how the fishing industry could be advanced with the help of modern technology. In addition, extensive discussions were held on expanding the fish market and improving the quality of fish.

Speaking at the meeting, the President stated that the government will work closely with fishermen and captains to find solutions to their concerns. He assured that the issues raised during the meeting will be looked into very seriously and that he will work to take urgent measures to address them. He also mentioned that he will strive to hold frequent consultative meetings similar to the one held today.
