President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has assured the residents of K. Gulhi that the issue of space constraints at the island's harbour will be resolved.
The President gave this assurance to the residents of Gulhi while speaking to them during his visit to the island today.
The President stated that the decision on whether to address the harbour space constraints by building an additional harbour or by expanding the existing one will be made after consultations between the Island Council and the Construction Ministry. He also noted that decisions in these consultations should prioritize what is most beneficial to the island and what yields the greatest economic return.
Furthermore, regarding the issue with the harbour's entrance channel breakwater, he requested technical advice to see if a solution could be found within the ongoing works, and assured that if such a solution exists, it will be provided. He also stated that resolving the harbour issue is an essential task for the development of Gulhi.
"If the first priority is bringing a solution to the entrance channel breakwater issue, the Council mentioned it as very important in today's meeting. Therefore, after this trip, consultations will be held at a technical level between the Ministry and the Council. In the project starting now, as large boulders are brought in, if a good solution can be implemented for that, we will do it. So, even if I cannot disclose the details at this moment, I give the assurance that, through consultations between the Council and the Ministry, the issue of the entrance channel breakwater and the overall issue of harbour space constraints will be resolved. God willing, we will do that," the President said.
The President's visit to Gulhi in Male' Atoll is the first trip made this year as part of the series of visits initiated by the President to meet with atoll, island, and city councils in 2024.
