President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that preparations are underway to procure the necessary machinery to establish decompression chambers in various regions of the Maldives, including Fuvahmulah City.
He made these remarks while speaking at a meeting held tonight with the residents of Fuvahmulah City, as part of his ongoing tour of Addu and Fuvahmulah cities.
During his speech, the President provided an update on the government's efforts to develop the Fuvahmulah City Hospital. In this regard, he highlighted the expansion of space at the hospital, the commencement of MRI services, and the preparations underway to introduce mammography services. Shedding light on the decompression chamber he promised to establish in Fuvahmulah, he stated that work is currently underway to award a contract to procure the necessary machinery simultaneously for all the islands he had promised, including Fuvahmulah. He also noted that there are no financial issues in acquiring the machinery.
The President expressed hope that the decompression chambers would be established and completed within the next two to three months.
It is a government target to establish arrangements in various regions to provide treatment for incidents involving individuals engaged in bait fishing using scuba gear. During his visit to Th. Guraidhoo last September, the President met with the island's residents and stated that, as promised during the presidential campaign, the work to establish decompression chambers in various regions is proceeding at a very fast pace. Accordingly, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu stated that day that decompression chambers would be installed in Male' City, Addu City, Fuvahmulah City, Thinadhoo City, AA. Rasdhoo, and GA. Vilingili within the next four months.
The lack of arrangements to receive decompression treatment across various parts of the Maldives has been a longstanding concern for fishermen and divers. The installation of decompression chambers capable of providing permanent services in six regions of the Maldives will be a great relief for fishermen and divers.
