Preparations are underway to begin monitoring the Maldives' maritime zone using drones.
The Maldivian military is preparing to hold a special ceremony at Maafaru International Airport on Friday to inaugurate the 24-hour surveillance of the Maldives' fishing grounds and Exclusive Economic Zone using Turkish Bayraktar drones.
It is understood that two of the world's most advanced drones in drone technology, the Bayraktar brand produced by Turkey's Baykar, will be used to monitor the maritime zone. The soldiers active in these operations have completed special training for this in Turkey. These soldiers are currently based at Maafaru Airport.
A video showing the testing activities of the two drones brought in to monitor the maritime zone has now become public on social media.
The drones brought in to monitor the maritime zone are unmanned and capable of flying continuously for up to 28 hours. Designed to be operated even during the night, these drones have the capability to transmit real-time information to the main center from a distance of 300 kilometers.
It is estimated that once the monitoring of the Maldives' seas begins with drones, the amount currently spent by the government on surveillance services will be significantly reduced. Furthermore, it will bring relief to maritime activities and surveillance programs conducted for missing persons and vessels.
