The practical work for the harbour development project in Lh. Olhuvelifushi has officially commenced.
The practical work of the harbour project was inaugurated at a ceremony held on the island yesterday by the Minister of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure, Dr. Abdulla Muththalib. The ceremony, graced by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, was attended by cabinet ministers, members of parliament, MTCC Managing Director and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Retired) Ahmed Saudhee, Olhuvelifushi Council members, and senior officials of government institutions.
Under this project, dredging operations will include re-dredging a previously dredged lagoon area of 7,534 cubic metres, dredging a new harbour basin area of 49,857 cubic metres, and dredging a channel area of 14,160 cubic metres. Additionally, the project involves the construction of a 164-metre revetment, a 172-metre breakwater, a 156-metre outer sand-filled breakwater, a 156-metre inner sand-filled breakwater, and a 246-metre quay wall. Furthermore, an 11-metre long by 11-metre wide ramp, a 27-metre long by 5-metre wide RC bridge, and a 132-metre long by 2-metre wide RC jetty will be constructed. The project also includes the installation of a 1,149-square-metre harbour pavement, as well as harbour and channel lights. In addition, an access platform will be built for ferry docking.
