Practical work begins on land reclamation and harbor construction for Nilandhoo fish canning factory

Practical work has commenced on land reclamation and harbor construction required for the fish canning factory being established in F. Nilandhoo.

The work to reclaim 7 hectares of land north of the island to establish the fish canning factory in Nilandhoo is being carried out by the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC). The government awarded this project to MTCC and signed the agreement on September 21 last year.

The Fisheries Ministry stated that MTCC began the practical work of reclaiming the land and building the harbor required for the factory on the 14th of this month.

Under this project, the established factory will be able to can 50 tonnes of fish per day. Additionally, a 1,500 metric tonne cold storage is also planned to be built under this project.

The Nilandhoo fish factory is being developed to include a 1,500 metric tonne cold storage, brine and blast freezing facilities, and a facility capable of canning 50 tonnes per day. The establishment of the factory has been awarded to Dongfang Electric International Corporation, a Chinese state-owned enterprise.
