Police Urge Public to Avoid Travelling Through Thilamale Bridge Construction Zone

The Maldives Police Service has urged the public to avoid using the three channels between Male' and Thilafushi for general travel, as work on the Thilamale Bridge project is currently underway in the area.

In a message shared on the official social media accounts of the Police Service, it was stated that while work on the Greater Male Connectivity, Male-Thilafushi Link project is ongoing in the three channels between Male' and Thilafushi, it is unsafe to use these channels for general travel.

The police made this appeal after noticing that these channels have been increasingly used for general travel recently. The police stated that this poses a risk of a dangerous incident occurring. Therefore, they urge the public not to use these three channels for general travel until the project is completed and the area is officially opened for use.

Under the Thilamale Bridge project, a 6.7-kilometre network of three bridges, causeways, and roads will be constructed. Additionally, interchange points and parking areas will be built for access to each connected island. The entire project is estimated to be completed by the end of September next year.

The project is estimated to cost $500 million and is being carried out under a $100 million grant and a $400 million line of credit provided by the Indian government. The project is being executed by the Indian company Afcons Infrastructure.

The Thilamale Bridge project is one of the largest infrastructure projects in the Maldives and is a crucial project linked to the economic and social development of the Male' region.
