Due to bad weather and rough seas across various parts of the Maldives, the Police have urged the public to avoid all non-essential sea travel.
In an alert message shared on X by the Police Service, it was stated that since the meteorological department has forecasted bad weather and rough seas, people should avoid non-essential sea travel, ensure all safety requirements are met on the vessel before starting a journey, not exceed the vessel's passenger capacity, avoid overloading with goods, and ensure everyone on board wears a life jacket.
Furthermore, as precautions while traveling, they urged obtaining the latest weather information before starting a journey and acting in accordance with the weather alerts issued by the National Meteorological Service. They also urged keeping emergency contact numbers visibly displayed on sea vessels.
