President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the pole-and-line fishing practiced by Maldivians in Maldivian waters since ancestral times is an example to the entire world.
He made this statement in his congratulatory message sent on the occasion of World Tuna Day, which is marked today.
In his message, the President extended World Tuna Day greetings to all the dedicated workers who work day and night to sustain the fishing industry.
The pole-and-line fishing practiced in the Maldives is a sustainable fishing method recognized globally.
Developing the fishing industry is one of the important presidential pledges of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. In this regard, his pledges include issuing payments for fish caught by fishermen within 48 hours, purchasing yellowfin tuna through the state fisheries company MIFCO, and ensuring that fishermen, like people in other professions, can access services through the banking system.
