Pole-and-line FAD deployed off Maafaru

A pole-and-line Fish Aggregating Device (FAD) has been deployed off the coast of Maafaru.

The N. Maafaru FAD was re-deployed yesterday following the loss of the island's previous FAD. This is the second time the FAD has been established this year. The lost FAD was located 9.5 miles east of Maafaru. The position of the FAD has been changed this time. Accordingly, the new FAD was deployed 9 miles east of the island.

The number of the N. Maafaru pole-and-line FAD, established yesterday during the Fisheries Ministry team's ongoing trip to the north, is E10D01-03.

According to information provided by the Fisheries Ministry, deploying a FAD costs approximately 500,000 Rufiyaa. The pole-and-line FADs are prepared at a specialized center established in Hulhumale. The FADs are deployed by a technical team from the Fisheries Ministry.

A pole-and-line FAD is specifically designated for pole-and-line fishing. Conducting other types of fishing activities near these FADs is legally prohibited.
