Pole-and-line FAD deployed off Kelaa

A pole-and-line Fish Aggregating Device (FAD) has been deployed off the coast of HA. Kelaa.

The technical team of the Fisheries Ministry deployed the FAD today, 17 miles north of HA. Kelaa. The pole-and-line FAD number is B09D01-02.

The location where this FAD is deployed is:

• 07°14.333’N

• 73°17.700’E

Pole-and-line FADs are specifically deployed for pole-and-line fishing or skipjack tuna fishing. It is legally prohibited to conduct other types of fishing in the area surrounding these FADs in a manner that obstructs pole-and-line fishing vessels.

Looking at the Maldives' FAD network, there are currently 65 pole-and-line FADs. Out of these, 4 FADs are established in HA Atoll.
