A Fish Aggregating Device (FAD) specifically for pole-and-line fishing has been deployed off the coast of K. Gaafaru.
The Fisheries Ministry stated today that the Gaafaru pole-and-line FAD was established 13.5 miles east of Gaafaru. The FAD number is G10D01. A trolling FAD has been established in Gaafaru many months after the island's previous FAD was lost. That FAD was deployed in August 2020. At that time, the FAD was placed 17 miles east of Gaafaru.
With the Gaafaru FAD, the number of pole-and-line FADs in Male' Atoll is now 4. These are the FAD located 13 miles east of Dhiffushi, the FAD located 12.6 miles southeast of Maafushi, and the FAD located 17 miles southeast of Huraa.
In addition to pole-and-line FADs, there are 3 FADs specifically for sports fishing in K. Atoll. These are the trolling FAD located 4.5 miles east of K. Gaafaru, the trolling FAD located 4.5 miles north of Kaashidhoo, and the trolling FAD located 5 miles east of Hulhumale.
